First of all, it's funny! Not really just funny, hysterical! At one point I laughed so hard I had tears coming out of my eyes. Somewhere in the middle I realized that it reminded me of Adventures in Babysitting, which is a movie I watched quite a bit growing up.
This film is A Kevin Downes Production of an Erwin Brothers Film, in association with Four
The description above is pretty accurate, but there is a real depth and familiarity to the characters and situations. Anyone that is a parent is sure to appreciate how overwhelmed Allyson (played by Sarah Drew from Grey's Anatomy) feels at being a stay at home mom; caring for her three small children. She has reached her wits end and needs to have a night out with the girls so her husband agrees to watch the kids. Allyson is a worrier so it is really difficult to "unplug" and try to have fun with her friends. Throughout the night she plays out scenarios in her head of really crazy awful things she is sure will happen. But what actually happens is pretty crazy all on it's own!
Something the synopsis doesn't mention is the religious aspect of Moms' Night Out. Faith and the love of God is mentioned several times. The movie isn't about her Allyson doubting her faith or God, but more about her doubting herself. Patricia Heaton plays, Sondra, the wife of a pastor and mom of a teenager. Even if you aren't religious I think you would enjoy this movie. Being a mom is the toughest job in the world and this movie shows that it's okay to get overwhelmed as a mom, don't be so hard on yourself.
Finding a movie with this great of a message for the whole family is pretty difficult to come by. It is a perfect family activity for Mother's Day weekend!
